ABB Tensimeter Millmate Strip tension measurement system overview
The ABB Tensimeter Millmate strip tension measuring system features ultra-high impact and overload resistance, fatigue resistance, long-term stability, no moving parts, and insensitivity to electrical interference on site. Reduce mill downtime caused by unpredictable failures and increase production.
The ABB Tensimeter Millmate Strip tension measuring system is used to measure strip tension to ensure that strip tension remains constant within allowable limits during acceleration and deceleration. The indenter is installed at both ends of the guide roll. A complete system consists of:
Two abb load measuring heads
A control unit for supplying power to the indenter and signal processing
abb force measuring head is based on ABB’s patented magnetoelastic technology, namely, piezomagnetic principle. The control unit provides excitation power to the indenter, processes the output signal from the indenter and transmits the measured value to the external system. Communication with other systems can be analog output, high – speed field bus, etc. PFEA111 / PFEA112 control unit can be set and debugged by touch keys. These features are easy to implement because of the friendly user interface. The measured values are displayed in PFEA111 / PFEA112 and communicated to external displays or other peripheral devices through analog output. Status or alarm information is displayed on the PFEA111 / PFEA112 control unit or output via ProfisBus DP(available for PFEA112 only).
PFEA111-20ABB Tensiometer Millmate Strip tension measurement – indenter measurement principle
Piezomagnetic sensor is based on the principle that magnetic permeability changes under the action of mechanical force. The sensor is made from a single piece of stainless steel with four holes punched in the stainless steel body. There are two sets of coils wound through these four holes at an Angle to each other. When an alternating current is passed through the primary coil, a magnetic field is generated in the primary coil. Because the primary and secondary coils are at an Angle to each other, no magnetic field is generated in the secondary coil as long as there is no load on the sensor. When a mechanical force is applied to the sensor’s measurement direction, the direction of magnetic field propagation in the primary coil changes, absorbing the secondary coil into the field. Because the magnetic field in the secondary coil changes, an induced potential is created in that coil. The control unit converts this induced potential into a DC voltage signal proportional to the force being measured.
ABB Tensimeter Millmate Strip tension measurement – the characteristics of a piezomagnetic indenter
The indenter is made of a single piece of stainless steel. Only sensitive to the force in the measured direction. The force in other directions is absorbed by the indenter due to its special structural design, thus having no effect on the force in the measured direction.
Wide measuring range: Measuring range is 40:1, the maximum is 200% of the rated range, the minimum is 5% of the rated range.
Repeatable large overload capacity: 10 times the rated range of electrical overload capacity, more than 30 times the rated range of mechanical overload capacity, no plastic deformation and fatigue phenomenon.
No calibration
No physical drift
High-power sensor output signal (100mV): large output signal and carrier frequency, excellent anti-interference performance.
Low impedance output (10 ohm) : The indenter has better noise resistance and the output signal is not sensitive to the insulation condition, which is more suitable for the harsh operating environment of the mill. Indenter protection level is IP65, can operate normally in splash site.
