According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the electricity consumption of the global wastewater treatment industry reached 222 terakilowatt hours (TWh) in 2020, and the electricity consumption of the entire industry is expected to increase by 80% by 2040. This is largely due to the growing demand for treated wastewater, which is now recognized as a valuable potential resource.
