Description
Fail-safe automation systems (F systems) are used for systems with high safety requirements.
F systems can be used to control processes, ensuring that they are in a safe state immediately after
disruption. That is, the F system is used to control processes in which immediate disruptions do not
harm people or the environment.
Safety Integrated is Siemens’ integrated approach to automation and drive technology. For security
systems, proven automation technologies and products are used. Safety Integrated includes a complete
safety sequence, a variety of sensors, actuators and fail-safe modules, as well as controllers, safely
communicated via a standard fieldbus. In addition to their practical functions, drivers and controllers
handle security tasks.
The main difference between a fail-safe module (F module) and a standard module is that the fail-safe
module is designed internally with two channels. This means that the two integrated processors monitor each
other, automatically test the input and output circuits, and switch the fail-safe module to a safe state in the
event of a failure. The F-CPU communicates with the fail-safe module according to the secure PROFIsafe bus protocol.
The fail-safe motor starter safely disconnects the motor load. The fail-safe motor starter does not
belong to the PROFIsafe node. The motor starter works with the fail-safe module of the ET 200SP system.
Application areas of ET 200SP with fail-safe I/O module
By using the ET 200SP distributed I/O system with a fail-safe I/O module, traditional safety
engineering configurations can be replaced, including switching devices such as scram switches, protective door monitoring and two-hand operation
