Siemens’ industrial edge ecosystem is further expanded with new hardware and software
The industrial edge management system is available to users on a cloud-based “as-a-service” basis
Low code for the industrial Edge: Simplify edge application programming with Mendix on Edge
These new products and services are an integral part of the Siemens Xcelerator, which was unveiled during this year’s SPS show in Nuremberg
Edge computing plays an increasingly significant role in industrial production. Using industrial edge technology, companies are able to capture and process data in real time at the factory site layer where it is generated. At this year’s Nuremberg International Industrial Automation and Components Exhibition (SPS) in Germany, Siemens, as a technology company, expanded its industrial edge products and services in a comprehensive way, enabling users to better connect information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). The industrial edge is also an important part of Siemens Xcelerator, an open and flexible digital business platform.
Industrial edge management platform on the cloud
Industrial Edge Management (IEM) is a software management platform for managing both hardware and software iot solutions in the factory, enabling centralized management of all devices, applications and users integrated into the Siemens Industrial Edge. With this update, Siemens makes IEM available to users in a cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) format. IEM Cloud is a fully managed service that covers many aspects of hardware facilities and system configuration, significantly reducing operating system requirements and configuration costs, and directly integrating industrial edge devices into the management system. IEM Cloud can be used to manage automation software as well as hardware from Siemens and third-party vendors.
Customers using IEM Cloud will not need to conduct their own IT processes. IEM Cloud can help them streamline the use of the industrial edge.
The Siemens Mendix low-code development platform empowers users to develop field-level applications needed in production without coding knowledge. Automation engineers can use the new industrial edge plug-in to develop industry-specific applications in Mendix Studio Pro and install them on the appropriate device.
With Mendix on Edge, developing industrial edge applications will be dramatically simplified, up to 10 times faster and consuming 70 percent less programming resources than traditional methods. Mendix on Edge will further promote the integration of IT and OT.
