Teledyne e2v, a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies and a global innovator in imaging solutions, has announced a new family of state-of-the-art CMOS image sensors, Emerald™ Gen2. The new series adds performance enhancements to Teledyne e2v’s advanced imaging technology, making it ideal for a variety of machine vision applications, outdoor surveillance, and traffic detection and surveillance cameras.
Emerald Gen2 models are available in 8.9 megapixel (4,096 x 2,160) and 12 megapixel (4,096 x 3,072), monochrome and color, standard speed and high-speed versions. High speed models offer excellent performance in demanding applications that require ultra-high speed and clear imaging, such as food sorting, inspection, and intelligent transportation systems.
With a small global shutter pixel of 2.8 μm, the sensor is designed with Teledyne e2v’s latest generation photoguide technology and has a dynamic range of up to 67 dB in both 10-bit and 12-bit ADC modes. It allows the camera to work in high-contrast scenes without exposure problems.
Compared to the original Emerald series, the new series has a number of functional improvements. The matrix is available in a compact ceramic Planar Grid Array (CLGA) package of 21 x 20 mm² for 1-inch optical formats, making integration easier and more cost-effective. It has two output types, LVDS and MIPI CSI 2, and camera manufacturers can use either interface according to customer needs. It also has low noise performance, read noise <3e-, dual light guide technology improves its sensitivity and angular response.
Maxime Taupin, Marketing Manager, Teledyne e2v, said: “We are delighted to launch the Emerald Gen2 sensor family, which will meet the current and future needs of many industries. “This new sensor provides improved optoelectronic performance and flexible output choice, giving camera manufacturers a high-performance solution to meet demanding customer demands.”
