Last year, the “Hand in Hand – Siemens China Public Welfare Program” was officially launched, and Siemens continues to leverage its technological advantages and continue to focus on three major areas of technology promotion, education promotion and social development to contribute to the sustainable development of Chinese society.
As an important part of the “Love Together – Siemens China Public Welfare Program”, the Love Green University Student Project has gone through five years since 2018. The project is committed to promoting the concept of sustainable development and scientific and technological innovation into rural education, and to building a high-quality practical growth platform for young college students.
Over the past five years, a total of 1,227 college volunteers and 169 Siemens youth mentors have traveled to rural areas, covering 69 practice sites in 29 provinces and autonomous regions across the country, benefiting more than 69,000 rural teachers and students, sowing the seeds of knowledge, love and hope. Today, the Love Green University Student Project begins its sixth year of journey, and continues to empower rural education and youth growth. The presentation and launch ceremony of the project was held at the Siemens Center in Beijing, and a live online broadcast was also held for university students across the country.
Dr. Xiao Song, Chairman, President and CEO of Siemens China, delivered a keynote speech. Dr. Xiao Song said that the influence of social practice is far-reaching, and at the same time, it is also an important classroom for young college students to “learn in practice and grow in practice”. He also shared his own experience of walking into the practice site, looked forward to this year’s project, and expressed his encouragement and expectation for young college students: mind far away, apply what you learn, and make life like a vast wilderness with more possibilities. In addition to introducing, reviewing and looking forward to the “Love Green” project, the event also invited scholars and experts to hold roundtable discussions on the theme “The significance of participation in social practice for youth growth”. The guests discussed topics such as the characteristics of today’s youth group, the educational significance of social practice, and the social influence brought by the “Love Green” project.
Among them, He Hongliang, deputy Secretary-General of the China Electronics Industry Standardization Technology Association and Secretary-General of the Social Responsibility Committee, said that as a specific measure to practice the concept of green development and the two-carbon strategy, the “Love green” project supports youth to carry out environmental protection actions through corporate social responsibility, which has important innovation and practical significance.
Luo Zhennan, director of the Social Practice and Volunteer Service Center of the Youth League Committee of Beijing Normal University, said that contemporary youth have more diverse opportunities and face new challenges. The important task of The Times and the historical mission are unchanged propositions, and devoting themselves to social practice and voluntary service can help young students better understand the society, the world and themselves.
Xia Jun, secretary-general of the China College Students Knowledge and Practice Promotion Program, said that according to the observation of social practice work for many years, social practice is an important bridge for young students to enter the society, but also an important platform for the growth of talent.
Wang Haibin, executive vice president of Siemens (China) Co., LTD., and general manager of Siemens Greater China Digital Industry Group, mentioned in the sharing that the “Love green” project is the practice of Siemens to make “science and technology promising”, and sent a message to the students: “Life is a very wonderful journey, every period of time is worthy of being taken seriously, and every experience will be meaningful.”
