“Integrator” of advanced manufacturing
What kind of factory can be called the global “mother factory”? In this regard, Guan Wei, senior vice president and head of global supply chain of Lenovo Group, summarized three key indicators: the first application of the most advanced technology + the formation of replicable and scalable solutions + incubation of innovative ideas and innovative products.
The South Base is the most complex intelligent manufacturing factory of Lenovo Group. The base produces more than 50 kinds of products, and develops and produces nearly 100,000 configurations. In addition, it also covers traditional businesses such as desktop computers, personal workstations, servers, high-performance computing clusters, displays, options, and FRUs, carrying and incubating all kinds of intelligent products. Such as smart modules, smart terminals, smart wearable devices, smart home appliances and other emerging businesses, the market covers more than 180 countries and regions around the world. In addition, the South Base also aims to build a low-carbon green smart park, and uses technologies such as the Internet of Things and big data analysis to automatically collect energy consumption data such as water, electricity and gas, temperature and humidity, emissions and other environmental data of the park’s production line to help the park further make dynamic analysis and decision-making based on transparent and visible data.
Guan Wei said that the southern base will be based on Lenovo’s many years of accumulated manufacturing experience, with the goal of “new IT, new intelligent manufacturing, new ecology”, and fully integrate intelligent technology with business scenarios. By exploring the industry pain points, in intelligent manufacturing, intelligent quality, intelligent logistics and other aspects of the design of personalized industry technology solutions, to create a highly informationized and automated benchmarking industrial park.
The world’s leading sample of the first industrial city
From the “three to one supplement” export processing special zone in the early days of reform and opening up, to now anchoring the world’s leading and important advanced manufacturing center, Shenzhen has always been at the forefront of manufacturing reform, and has gone through a period of transition from quantitative change to qualitative change, from low-end to high-end development. In 2022, Shenzhen’s total industrial output value above designated size and full-caliber industrial added value ranked “double first” for the first time in the country, becoming the country’s “first industrial city”.
Lenovo Group is the practitioner of “Shenzhen Leap” and “Shenzhen Speed”. Since taking root in Shenzhen in 1989, Lenovo has developed with Shenzhen for more than 30 years, and has now grown into the world’s largest PC manufacturer and the third largest server manufacturer.
As one of the major projects in Shenzhen, the Southern Base is a key measure for Lenovo Group to increase its core capabilities of intelligent manufacturing against the trend. The government of Shenzhen and Guangming District attaches great importance to the high-quality development of manufacturing enterprises and provides strong industrial space guarantee for high-quality enterprises including Lenovo Group. With the strong support of the government of Shenzhen and Guangming District, the base began construction in March 2020, experienced the challenges of the epidemic for three years, and was completed in only one and a half years, and was put into operation ahead of schedule by the end of 2022, and shipped within 100 days.
