Recently, SWIRE COCA-COLA (China) Co., Ltd. held the “Swire Coca-Cola DIGITECHCON”, Siemens was invited to attend. Siemens is Swire Coca-Cola’s digital strategic partner, and the two companies have achieved a series of digital transformation results. During the summit, Siemens demonstrated how digital technologies can help Swire Coca-Cola continuously optimize the supply chain, improve production performance, enhance product quality, and accelerate sustainable development while flexibly responding to market changes.
On March 30, 2021, Siemens and Swire Coca-Cola reached a digital strategic cooperation in Hangzhou, to carry out in-depth cooperation in the fields of digital factory construction, intelligent supply chain management and digital talent training, and jointly build a digital benchmark factory in the beverage industry, and jointly promote the digital transformation process of Swire Coca-Cola in China and even the world.
Two years of MIS deployment: Empower with data, Speak with data
Through a strategic partnership, Siemens tailor-made the Manufacturing Information System (MIS) for Swire Coca-Cola. The system is based on Siemens’ own advanced software and hardware products and automation, digital technology and solutions, jointly developed with Swire Coca-Cola, is an industry-leading, replicable standardized technology platform.
Since its large-scale deployment, MIS has been widely used in about 18 Swire Coca-Cola plants and achieved many application results, such as: USLE(net line efficiency) increased by 4.15 percentage points.
“In cooperation with Siemens, we have completed the installation of more than 40 lines of MIS, through the combination of digital production management and our continuous improvement, effectively improve our efficiency, and empower front-line colleagues to enhance their capabilities, we are looking forward to the online quality management, production line energy consumption management, which is being launched this year.” MIS iterations such as maintenance based on equipment condition, cloud-edge collaboration, and so on, help us rapidly increase our digital capabilities and move towards our goal of a world-class supply chain.” — Zhang Xiaodong, General manager, Supply Chain, Swire Coca-Cola China
How did MIS achieve such outstanding performance?
Real-time monitoring, enable production equipment: real-time control of equipment operation, at a glance. Identify problems in a timely manner, reduce losses and downtime through RCA(root cause analysis) analysis, and keep equipment operating efficiently.
Instant feedback, enabling front-line personnel: real-time reporting is combined with short-cycle performance meeting mode, short-term review of data and formulation of action plans, enabling front-line employees to make efficient decisions, solve on-site problems immediately, achieve closed-loop management, and promote continuous improvement from the bottom up.
Intelligent manufacturing, lean production: Through edge computing to carry out a real global scan of the production line, visual management and active analysis and prediction, do not miss every opportunity for self-improvement. At the same time, group-level benchmarking and comparison are carried out in the cloud, and the digital capability of the bottling plant has also been greatly improved, using digital means to break through the lean limits of traditional factories. “Siemens digital technology can integrate the real world with the digital world to help customers achieve more transparent production, tap the potential of data in production, improve the efficiency of the entire production process, and achieve green sustainable development, bringing tangible value to the enterprise.” I am very happy to see that in the past cooperation, Siemens and Swire Coca-Cola have carried out very effective cooperation and practice in the field of digitalization and low carbon, and achieved a very good demonstration role. We look forward to continuing to work with Swire Coca-Cola to replicate the success of the demonstration project at scale and continue to contribute to the development of the industry with digital and low-carbon two-wheel drive.” — Li Shiguang, General Manager, Food and Beverage Industry, Digital Industry Group, Siemens (China) Co., LTD
Continuous ability from MIS 1.0 to MIS X.0
Creating a “smart brain” for the supply chain
At the same time, the current MIS system has been iterated to MIS 2.0, expanding the functions of energy management, equipment status maintenance, online quality and so on, and integrating CCTV(closed-circuit television monitoring system), 5G, cloud-edge collaboration and other technologies. In the future, MIS will also integrate innovative technologies such as big data modeling AI analysis, knowledge graph, and digital twin to carry out agile iteration, while continuing to expand more functions. MIS will cover about 26 of Swire Coca-Cola’s plants and 126 production lines. This self
