ABB participated in the 2023 China Electric Vehicle 100 Forum held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. As a member of the International Expert Committee of the Committee of 100, Dr. Gu Chunyuan, Chairman of ABB China, was invited to attend important meetings such as the Council of the Committee of 100 and the closed-door Seminar on the Development Situation and Policy of China’s automotive industry. In the on-site observation area, ABB showcased a series of electric vehicle charging solutions for a variety of scenarios, including its innovative high-power liquid-cooled supercharging system.
The 100 Forum is the “wind vane” of China’s new energy vehicle industry. Under the new situation of accelerating the electrification and intelligence of the automobile industry, this year’s forum of 100 People with the theme of “Promoting the modernization of China’s automobile industry”, well-known experts and scholars and senior enterprise representatives from domestic and foreign government departments, international organizations, automotive, energy, transportation, cities, communications and other fields, Discussions were held on topics such as the development situation of the global automobile industry, the high-quality development path of new energy vehicles, and the development strategy of intelligent connected vehicles, focusing on hot spots and collision wisdom.
Dr Gu Chunyuan said: “Full electrification, improved energy efficiency and greater share of renewable energy is a key path to achieving a green transition to carbon neutrality, and the transport sector is an important enabler to accelerate this process. China’s new energy vehicle industry has entered a new stage of large-scale and rapid development, and ABB is willing to work more closely with all sectors to accelerate technological breakthroughs, constantly improve supporting facilities, support collaborative innovation in the industrial chain, and inject more powerful force into the high-quality and sustainable development of the electric transportation industry.”
China is the largest country for new energy vehicles, with the production and sales ranking first in the world for eight consecutive years. With the rapid growth of new energy vehicles, China has built the world’s largest and most widely distributed charging infrastructure network. In recent years, ABB has continuously increased its investment and research and development efforts in this field in China. In 2022, ABB increased its stake in Shanghai Lianchao New Energy Technology Co., LTD. In the same year, the new China headquarters of Electric Transportation was established in Shenzhen, and the 480kW high-power liquid-cooled supercharge system developed and produced in China was successfully launched. This system, which can be charged for 5 minutes and run for 200 kilometers, is suitable for high-speed service areas, gas stations, transportation hubs and other busy stations, making charging as convenient and fast as refueling.
Cao Yang, head of ABB Electric Mobility in China, said: “ABB Electric Mobility is committed to accelerating the development of the new energy industry and working with partners to create a ‘charging as a service’ operating philosophy. The China Electric Vehicle 100 Forum provides a good opportunity for us to expand cooperation. We will create a more intelligent, efficient, convenient and fast charging experience for users by continuously increasing innovation and localized R&D investment.”
Globally, since entering the electric vehicle charging market in 2010, ABB has delivered more than 1 million charging piles in 85 countries and regions, including China, the vast majority of which are produced by ABB’s China base. ABB has also participated in the formulation of a number of mainstream charging standards around the world, promoting the effective coverage of high-power charging networks for key scenarios, and supporting the construction of a comprehensive low-carbon green transportation ecology.
The rapid development of electric vehicles has also brought new changes to the automobile manufacturing industry, promoting the transformation of the traditional linear production model to the modular flexible production line. ABB is committed to promoting flexible manufacturing, modular production and intelligent manufacturing, with a strong focus on intelligent robot AI learning technology. ABB’s robot Gigafactory, which was recently officially put into operation in Shanghai, integrates production and research and development, and will provide more powerful support for many aspects of the electric vehicle production chain, such as powertrain, body in white, battery assembly, body painting and sealing, and further meet the surging market demand.
