At the Interpack 2023 packaging fair in Dusseldorf, under the theme “Flexible Automation Solutions for Industrial Safety and Information Security”, Pierre Magneto will demonstrate how future-proof automation technologies can improve safety and productivity in the packaging industry. The focus of the Pierre Magnetic booth is sensor technology, control technology and operational and monitoring solutions for primary, secondary and terminal packaging, as well as Industrial Information Security: Industrial Security Bridge Firewall a portfolio of consulting and services tailored specifically for the packaging industry.
One of the intelligent automation concepts of Pilmagnetic is safe paperboard feeding in the field of secondary packaging, which not only makes the packaging line safer, but also easier to operate. The TUV SUD-certified solution is designed for small and medium-sized machines and offers two safety controllers as evaluation units for you to choose from – the small controller PNOZmulti 2 for applications configured via software tools, and the modular safety relay myPNOZ for batch size 1 feed solutions. Piermagnetic’s security experts will explain how this flexible, cost-effective security solution saves time and costs during planning, project configuration and commissioning.
Industry 4.0 has entered the packaging industry. Smart networking and customization are the guiding themes of the smart factory. This requires advanced automation and security concepts, including industrial security and information security, to also ensure product safety. With this in mind, Peel Magnetic will present Identification and Access Management (I.A.M.) solutions for implementing total access management in packaging machines and machine pools.
As a comprehensive solution for secure access management, I.A.M. also enables the choice of a secure mode of operation: in Dusseldorf, Pielmagneto will demonstrate an efficient digital “key-in-pocket” maintenance assurance system based on the access rights system PITreader and Pielmagneto control technology. It prevents accidental machine restarts when maintenance work is still being performed in dangerous areas. Before entering the plant, one or more authorized operators are certified using their personal transponder and assigned a personal security ID, which is centrally stored in the security controller. This prevents the machine from being tampered with and prevents the operator from accidentally restarting.
Unlike maintenance assurance systems that use mechanical keys, operators can enter or leave the plant through any security gate. Therefore, “key-in-pocket” provides greater flexibility and saves time during maintenance.
The use of IT and OT(Operational technology) networks means that packaging machines require additional protection. At the show, Peel Magneto will also demonstrate the Industrial Security Bridge Firewall, which protects the control network from tampering due to unauthorized access. It monitors the data traffic between the PC and the controller and reports any unauthorized changes made to the control items. As a result, it protects downstream controllers from network-based attacks and unauthorized access. This guarantees high product safety, which has a special need in pharmaceutical and food packaging.
Mechanical Instructions and more information
In order to obtain safe and legal machines, machine manufacturers must understand the relevant standards and apply them. This includes the requirements of the internationally applicable standard EN ISO 14119 for interlocking devices. Visitors to the Pierre Magnetic booth can learn about the criteria that other manufacturers and users need to consider. Safety automation experts provide customized support throughout the entire life cycle of the packaging machine, from risk assessment to safety verification, including international compliance assessment
