Siemens Xcelerator helps Daimler Trucks advance innovative technology development for trucks and buses
The new product development and lifecycle management platform will replace Daimler Trucks’ legacy systems
Siemens Digital Industrial Software and Daimler Trucks today announced a new collaboration to build an advanced digital engineering platform using Siemens Xcelerator’s portfolio of industrial software and services. The platform will enable Daimler Trucks to explore innovation in commercial vehicles, implement efficient development and lifecycle management for truck and bus products, and promote globally in Daimler Trucks Engineering centers, brands and business units.
Dr. Andreas Gorbach, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler Trucks Holding AG and Head of Truck Technology, said: “This renewed partnership with Siemens will help Daimler Trucks create a globally integrated IT and engineering environment in which we can leverage advanced technologies to build the future of the transport industry and help our customers achieve greater success. Based on the new development platform, Daimler Trucks enables a transparent and efficient end-to-end engineering process, a unified IT environment, increased agility of engineering activities and reduced time to market.”
The partnership will see Daimler Trucks deploy Teamcenter® lifecycle management software covering Bill of Materials (BOM) management functions as the standard PLM solution for Daimler Trucks in the future. The new digital platform, built with the help of Siemens Xcelerator, brings together and integrates the workflows, systems and their associated mechanical design, electrical design and simulation data of the Daimler Trucks team, and can continue to expand the application of other Siemens Xcelerator solutions as the needs of Daimler Trucks expand. Includes NX™ product engineering software and more.
Since its independent operation, Daimler Trucks has continuously increased its digital initiatives, gradually moving away from the legacy systems of Daimler AG, and is committed to leading the sustainable development of the transportation industry with intelligent IT innovation. For the trucks and buses of the future, Daimler Trucks has a clear technical strategy: carbon neutrality with batteries and hydrogen power systems. With the continuous improvement of the level of digitalization, trucks and buses will also gradually become intelligent, providing a higher level of service for the transport industry.
Cedrik Neike, member of the Board of Management of Siemens AG and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries, said: “Trucks are an important pillar of the global supply chain, and Siemens will continue to provide Daimler Trucks with the technology platform as well as product engineering, life cycle management and simulation tools to help it plan its future of carbon-neutral transport.”
Daimler Trucks currently adopts a global platform approach, first developing key components and vehicle platforms and then expanding them to various brands and markets worldwide. With the technical and service support of Siemens, the two parties will jointly build a cloud-based global collaborative and common digital engineering system platform to jointly promote the high-quality development of the transportation industry.
