CCell, whose mission is to combat coastal erosion through peaceful coexistence with Marine habitats, won the Elektra Power Systems Product Award 2022 in London last night, beating 13 competitors. Based in the United Kingdom, CCell is committed to slowing coastal erosion by maintaining an eco-friendly approach to save coastal environments and protect ecological communities around the world.
More than 51 percent of the world’s coastlines are being eroded as a result of climate change, which is gradually destroying coastal ecological communities and the environments on which they depend. CCell promotes seawater electrolysis using renewable energy and innovative power conversion technologies to combat erosion and save ecological communities.
On November 30, CCell won the 2022 Elektra Power System Product of the Year Award in London. CCell Chief Marketing Officer Katrine Deeks accepted the award. CCell, whose mission is to combat coastal erosion by working in harmony with Marine habitats, stood out from 13 competitors. To the left of Deeks is Alex Price, senior marketing manager at Vicor.
CCell uses Vicor’s proportional power architecture to manage a wide range of input voltages for wave and solar power supplies and to provide the output voltage required for optimal electrolysis processes. The power module is part of a platform called CCell Sense, which also enables remote real-time monitoring of Marine ecosystems to restore habitat and the health of the offshore Marine environment.
CCell’s reef growth system, based on seawater electrolysis, deposits calcium carbonate (limestone) onto large steel frames that will act as anodes and cathodes (electrodes), providing early structure for the new reef. The technology is revolutionary because instead of hundreds of years, it takes just four months to produce solid limestone on which polyps can grow.

“It is an honor to be selected for this award and to recognize the work that CCell has invested so passionately in,” said Dr. Will Bateman, CEO of CCell. “We are fortunate to work with some very innovative partners, and Vicor is integral to that. The precise power source they help us provide is necessary to make the limestone a lasting, sustainable digital biological reef.”
