Bosch Rexroth opens the Linux-based ctrlX OS operating system for embedded computer applications from Congate. With this move, Congatet’s embedded and edge computing products will become part of an open IS200EPDMG1B ecosystem of the ctrlX OS operating system that is modular, scalable, highly sustainable and flexible. Users’ operational technologies (OT) benefit from integrated hardware and software solutions for applications ranging from embedded and edge devices to edge clouds (also known as fog). ctrlX OS’s key target markets in embedded computing include automation, robotics, medical technology, energy/smart grid, and automotive applications.

Congatet’s decision to adopt ctrlX OS enables customers in the embedded computing market to use the ctrlX Store’s total solution portfolio, which includes numerous applications. Applications from Bosch Rexroth and other third-party providers in the ctrlX World IS200EPDMG1B partner network take an open, modular approach. This approach extends from modules all the way to final applications and cloud integration. Building blocks that combine the hardware and software layers simplify the complexity of embedded application development, including edge and cloud integration. This shortens time-to-market while providing a high level of design security.
Dominik Ressing, CEO of Congatet, explained: “With this collaboration, we are taking steps towards providing fully integrated and application-ready solutions for connected sensors and actuators from the field to the cloud. Bosch Rexroth is a strong global partner that provides very comprehensive and application-oriented software support for the modular and open design of our secure embedded Building blocks. This makes our modular, scalable solutions for networking and cloud integration applications even more attractive.”
Steffen Winkler, Sales Director, IS200EPDMG1B Automation and Electrification Solutions Business Unit, Bosch Rexroth, explains: “Industrial digitization and sustainability goals are best achieved through an open, modular and demand-oriented platform of scalable solutions. With Congatet, we gain another partner company that represents and embodies these values. Based on manufacturer-independent standards, we can now support any embedded computing platform configured on ctrlX OS, making ctrlX OS universally applicable and scalable on demand.”

Application-ready solutions create added value
With Congatet, developers can purchase computer modules directly IS200EPDMG1B equipped with the ctrlX OS license. With ctrlX OS, Congatet customers can access the ctrlX Store, which currently has around 60 applications. ctrlX OS is a real-time Linux-based operating system that also provides developers with German-certified developer excellence support, including root-of-trust. In addition, many applications, services, and software development kits (SDKS) are just a click away. The ctrlX store offers a variety of solutions, such as for PLC applications, motion control and communication, and engineering tools. Developers can also access a variety of iot and cloud applications, including basic features such as firewalls and VPN clients.
