PROFIBUS DP is a high speed multipurpose bus protocol (up to 12Mbit/s) for interconnecting field devices, like remote I/O, drives, lowvoltage electrical equipment, and controllers. PROFIBUS DP can be connected to the AC 800Mvia the CI854A communication interface. The Classic CI854A includes two PROFIBUS ports to realize line redundancy and it also supports PROFIBUS master redundancy.
The CI854B is the newPROFIBUS-DP master thatreplaces CI854A in newinstallations.
Master redundancyis supported in PROFIBUS-DP communication by using two CI854A communication interface modules. The master redundancy can be combinedwith CPU redundancy and CEXbus redundancy(BC810). The modules are mounted on a DIN rail and interface directly with the S800 I/O system, and other I/O systems as well, including all PROFIBUS DP/DP-V1 and FOUNDATION Fieldbus proficient systems.
The PROFIBUS DP must be terminated atthe two outermost nodes.
This is usually done by using connectors with built-in termination. To guarantee a correctworking termination the connector has to be plugged and power supplied.

Application field

The PROFIBUS-DP bus standard is the field bus standard of the German standard and the European standard.

The PROFIBUS-DP bus standard consists of PROFIBUS-DP, PROFIBUS-FMS, and PROFIBUS-PA. Among them, PROFIBUS-DP is mainly used for high-speed data transmission between decentralized peripherals, which is suitable for the field of processing automation. Its transmission technology uses a bus topology with terminals at both ends to ensure that one or more stations are connected and disconnected during operation without affecting others. The PROFIBUS-DP bus allows you to select two different physical layers of RS485 or optical fiber, and the transmission medium can be twisted pair or optical cable, and up to 127 sites can be connected.

The main features of PROFIBUS-DP bus include simple, safe and fast transmission, and the system configuration is highly flexible, and can be formed according to the needs of single master station and multi-master station system. The single master station system has only one active master station, which can obtain the shortest overall cycle time. In the multi-master configuration, the master station and the slave station on the bus form an independent subsystem or as an additional configuration and diagnostic device on the network. Any master station can read the input and output image of the DP slave station, but only one master station (DPM1 specified during the system configuration) writes the output data.

In general, the PROFIBUS-DP bus standard provides a feasible solution for the realization of integrated factory automation and field equipment intelligence.
