The ABB CI810B backup NPM module must receive a copy of the primary NPM module’s database (not exception report data) over the NKMP01 or NKMP11 cable before it is ready for hot failover. The database in the ABB CI810B primary NPM module must be stable for 15 seconds before being transferred to the standby NPM module. After 15 seconds without any changes from the ABB CI810B field communication interface module, the primary NPM module transfers a complete copy of its database (one record at a time) to the backup NPM module.
ABB CI810B field communication interface module takes about three minutes to completely transfer a large database. If the main NPM module database changes before the transfer completes, the transfer will be aborted and will restart after 15 seconds without changing the database. After transferring the entire database, back up the NPM module for hot failover. ABB CI810B Field Communication Interface Module If changes are made to the primary NPM module database after the backup NPM module is ready for hot failover, the changes are transferred to the backup NPM module in one of two ways. ABB CI810B Field Communication Interface Module If only a few database records are changed, these changes are immediately transferred to the backup NPM module. If multiple database record changes occur within a short period of time, the primary NPM module resets the backup NPM module, causing the entire database to be transferred to the backup NPM module.
