Automation experts work together to promote open development
WAGO’s own device is configured with ctrlX OS
Bosch Rexroth collaborates with WAGO to develop new industry solutions
ctrlX OS, the Bosch Rexroth operating system, made a splash in the market as soon as it was launched: automation experts made the software independent of the control hardware and used the software in industrial environments. As a result, even competitors can use Linux-based operating systems for related purposes and as system and technology partners. WAGO has decided to continue on this path and help drive the open evolution of automation as Bosch Rexroth’s first partner in the field.
ctrlX OS is a system designed for real-time applications that can be used at all levels — from field levels and edge devices to cloud levels. With its new openness, it can eliminate all previous boundaries and create a new space for users to move. After installing ctrlX OS, you can access the entire ecosystem. The required applications are also available for download from the ctrlX store.
Previously, the operating system was dedicated to the AUTOMATION toolkit ctrlX AUTOMATION’s control system ctrlX CORE. Today, the expansion of Bosch Rexroth’s openness to use as a standalone solution for industrial purposes will create a richer and more diverse range of collaborative opportunities in the market.
Unlimited potential – automation with operating systems
As a company specializing in automation and connectivity technologies, WAGO is the first system and technology partner to use the Bosch Rexroth operating system. Through their joint participation in ctrlX World, Bosch Rexroth and WAGO have developed an ongoing collaboration. WAGO uses its own portfolio of I/O products to provide partners with specific modules and will also participate in the further development of the ctrlX OS operating system. The initial focus is on the implementation with own equipment, as well as the application development of ctrlX OS based WAGO specific applications.
“The core of WAGO’s product strategy is the application of ctrlX OS on the self-developed WAGO control platform,” said Johannes Pfeffer, Vice President of WAGO Automation. With this new technology, we can enhance the competitiveness of our products, while at the same time, we can leverage industry expertise to develop market-specific solutions. To do this successfully, we can also integrate products and devices from the Bosch Rexroth portfolio with our own product range.”
WAGO has provided a complete and mature automation system. The system consists of a variety of traditional controllers, couplers used to connect fieldbus and network protocols, and a large number of I/O modules, which can meet the needs of almost all envisioned automation tasks. “We will continue to provide this control platform for a long time to come,” explains Johannes Pfeffer, adding: “In areas requiring medium and high performance, we will rely on ctrlX OS for a long time to improve performance — such areas require high time accuracy and high IT security standards for processing large amounts of data.”
