The development of the robot industry is the only way for China to move from a manufacturing power to a manufacturing power. Over the years, the Chinese government has promoted the high-quality development of the robot industry through industrial planning, encouraging technological innovation, cultivating application scenarios, optimizing the market environment and other initiatives.

By combing the development characteristics and status quo of China’s six regional robot industries, this paper helps local governments quickly understand the major regions of China’s robot industry, provides references for local governments to formulate regional planning, and hopes to promote exchanges and cooperation between local governments and regional industries.

1. Yangtze River Delta region: Shanghai is the traction, driving the Yangtze River Delta robot industry to lead the country

Development characteristics: The Yangtze River Delta region has established the most complete and systematic robot industry ecosystem in China, forming industrial clusters represented by Shanghai, Kunshan, Wuxi, Changshu, Xuzhou and Nanjing, which are in the forefront of the country in terms of industrial scale efficiency, industrial innovation ability and industrial innovation environment.

Development status: As of July 2022, the number of robot-related enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta has reached 4,547, including 1,118 in Shanghai, 2,254 in Jiangsu and 1,175 in Zhejiang. The Yangtze River Delta region has brought together global giants such as the four big families and well-known domestic leading enterprises such as Xinshida and Estun, with a group of specialized and special “little giant” enterprises such as LvDI, SecA, Turing, Tiimi, Guozi, Shanghai Gaoxian, Mingsi, Xugong Transmission, Hexuan and so on, forming an industrial cluster represented by Shanghai, Kunshan, Wuxi, Changshu, Xuzhou and Nanjing. The Yangtze River Delta region has a relatively complete robot industry chain. While introducing international advanced R & D bases and product centers, relying on local leading enterprises in the region, it realizes the large-scale development model with large and small, and with points and areas.
