The new RCU Lite remote communication terminal is an attractive entry-level connected communication terminal from Bosch Rexroth that provides users with robust, scalable and secure iot applications in a cost-effective configuration. The platform gateway is microcontroller-based, equipped with an embedded operating system and developed specifically for the off-highway market, offering multiple connectivity options for collecting and transmitting vehicle data to service fleet management. Intercommunication terminals can be managed and upgraded remotely.
The new RCU Lite entry-level 5-series product complements the microprocessor-based 10-series RCU (Standard) and 20-series (high-performance) products. The 5 Series hardware is based on a dual-core microcontroller equipped with an embedded operating system that allows easy access to off-highway vehicles via secure remote communication.
RCU Lite CAN collect vehicle data (CAN tracking) from up to two CAN buses. Communication between the vehicle and the Internet is based on the LTE CAT-M mobile communication standard for iot devices. A feature to access personal vehicles via smartphones will also be introduced in the future. The fleet manager can use this feature to determine the user of the machine, and the vehicle can only be started with a certificate stored on the smartphone.
The RCU Lite enclosure is rated IP67 and meets all the requirements in terms of robustness and is suitable for harsh environmental conditions. The AMP Superseal 1.5mm connector makes it easy, flexible and cost-effective to integrate telecommunications terminals into vehicle infrastructure.
RCU Lite also achieves the highest level of network security available today. An integrated certificate management system ensures secure communications thanks to various security and data protection features from Bosch, such as TPM (Trusted Platform Module), and RCU is ready to meet future specifications.
Complementary software for the BODAS connected ecosystem
Process parameters and fault information can be read using the basic software provided. Combining RCU Lite with the BODAS Connected Device Management Service Pack enables device management including remote upgrades and configurations. The 10 Series RCU and the high performance 20 Series models also allow brushing of Bosch Rexroth and other manufacturers’ controllers with the BODAS Universal write function.
RCU Lite is the cost-effective entry level product for BODAS Interconnect’s full-featured Interconnect package, a complete telecommunications solution that extends device management with industry-proven data management services. Fully integrated, end-to-end iot solutions offer a growing number of easy-to-adjust standard modules for fleet management and other services. Complete data analysis through REST apis that connect to other cloud systems and BODAS’s connected data management front end based on Bosch IoT Insights.
