MATE-XB was developed jointly by Comaux and IUVO in collaboration with Esselunga, a large retail trading company, as an early use and validation test partner, to provide full support for the lumbosacra joint during bending and lifting movements
The fully passive exoskeleton is designed to assist workers in carrying heavy loads of up to 25 kg, helping to ensure the safety and comfort of the operator
The launch of MATE-XB further demonstrates Comau’s commitment to wearable robotics, with the company now able to meet both upper and lower body support needs
Sustainable, measurable ergonomic improvements not only improve the quality and efficiency of work, but also bring tangible benefits to long-term health
Comau and IUVO, in collaboration with Esselunga, have developed a new wearable exoskeleton designed to reduce lower back fatigue caused by lifting and repetitive tasks. The product was tested at the Esselunga Group, a leading company in the large retail trade, with the aim of improving the ergonomics of operators engaged in manual handling. Without the use of motors or batteries, the exoskeleton provides passive assistance to the lower back muscles used during lifting and handling. As a result, it significantly reduces physical exertion and fatigue, bringing both short – and long-term benefits to the wearer. It is also a testament to Esselunga’s focus on innovation and its commitment to continuously improving working conditions by putting its employees at the centre
The latest Cormarco wearable exoskeleton uses springs to store energy released by the human body. It provides support for the operator during bending or repeated lifting movements to meet the specific needs of handling heavy objects. The product is easy to wear and can be adjusted quickly, making it suitable for almost all body types. Its lightweight carbon fiber construction is waterproof, dustproof and erosion-resistant, making it suitable for use indoors and outdoors, even in highly corrosive Marine environments.
Usage scenario
Ideal for logistics, manual palletising and unpalletising, manual picking and placing, bending to pick up, and lifting up, MATE-XB replicates the user’s body movements to provide optimal support for the waist without the need for batteries, motors, or other fail-prone components. Its intuitive, easy-to-use design allows the entire body to remain flexible while equipped with a quick on/off switch function that allows users to adjust the exoskeleton without interrupting the task at hand.
