Advantech, a provider of embedded iot solutions, recently introduced the SOM-2533, a high-performance module in the SMARC family powered by Intel Core i, Pentium, Celeron and Atom x7000 series processors. The SOM-2533 module supports up to 8 cores and, according to Intel research results, improves CPU performance by 1.4 times, graphics performance by 2 times, and AI performance by 3.5 times compared to previous generations. SOM-2533 module integrates LPDDR5 onboard storage, dual 2.5G LAN with TSN function and dual CANBUS interface. These features enhance end-to-end communication and ensure compatibility with previous generations. Additionally, the module includes a SERDES interface for additional LAN requirements, as well as TPM 2.0 for enhanced system security.
In addition to hardware features, Advantech also offers various software components to accelerate system development, including SUSI API (iManager), Yocto BSP, and Ubuntu OS. The SOM-2533 also supports DeviceOn, which saves up to 50% of labor costs through remote management. With its powerful computing power, extensive I/O support and comprehensive design services, the SOM-2533 is the perfect choice for medical, industrial control, transportation and automation applications.
The first Atom series to support Intel Core i3
As a result, the SOM-2533 is a powerful “performer” in automation and transportation applications, providing rapid deployment, low latency and precise reasoning.
The SOM-2533 also features the latest LPDDR5 storage technology, offering higher speeds of 4800 MT/s compared to the previous generation’s 3200 MT/s. By harnessing the combined power of these breakthrough technologies, the SOM-2533 represents a cost-effective and high-performance module for mainstream applications at the edge.
Flexible configuration to bridge the hardware upgrade gap
Control Area Networks (CAN) play a vital role in transportation and automation, facilitating direct communication between connected devices and ensuring reliable operation and scalability. With SOM-2533, you can access dual CANBUS interfaces that meet specific requirements. By designing the client accordingly, CAN-FD CAN support speeds of up to 5 MB /s. In addition to CAN capabilities, the SOM-2533 is also designed with dual 2.5G LAN ports that support TSN, on-board eMMC storage and capacity up to 64GB, providing faster data transfer with low latency in automation or industrial control. To maximize configuration flexibility, the SOM-2533 retains an additional SERDES interface for the third LAN port option. In addition, it has four PCIe Gen 3×1 slots that can be configured as dual PCIe x2 or x4 slots, and can also be adjusted to two USB 3.2 Gen 2 and SATA Gen 3 interfaces to accommodate specific functions or features required by various applications.
OTA update backup is used for BIOS recovery
Advantech DeviceOn simplifies the implementation of remote management and makes it a breeze. One of the popular features is OTA(over the air) updates, which allows BIOS or software updates to be performed on up to 100 devices in a single click, which not only saves a lot of labor costs, but also ensures efficient and streamlined updates. If the remote BIOS update fails, the iManager on SOM-2533 will be triggered and the BIOS will be started to switch to backup, and the crashed BIOS will automatically refresh again. This mechanism, combined with OTA updates, plays an important safeguard role in preventing system downtime.
