On December 13, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and ABB B&R Joint Laboratory, B&R – China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) certification training center was officially unveiled in Wuhan. This is ABB B&R’s first university joint laboratory in Central China. The laboratory focuses on modeling and simulation, networked process control, advanced control algorithms and other professional teaching and practical training, student testing and verification, software design and other ability training. At the same time, the laboratory will also undertake the user training and testing and verification functions of ABB B&R Central China region, which is open to relevant machine and production line research and development enterprises. Professor Cao Weihua, Dean of the School of Automation, China University of Geosciences, and Ms. Fan Huifang, co-director of ABB University of B&R, jointly unveiled the laboratory. Professors from related majors of Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan University of Technology and other sister universities jointly witnessed this moment.
Professor Cao Weihua, Dean of the School of Automation, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, and he believed that the cooperation with ABB B&R is an important measure to deepen the integration of industry and education, and engineering education serves the regional economy and talent training. He said: “Through this partnership, our students can learn more about cutting-edge technologies and engineering applications, and can have more contact with industry experts to understand how to become excellent engineering experts, so that we can better cultivate excellent engineering talents and serve the industry.” At the same time, as an open laboratory, the lab will also provide training services for regional enterprises, bringing us closer to the frontline of industrial practice.”
Exchange between industry and education, and jointly promote the cultivation of innovative talents integrating industry and education
ABB B&R relies on advanced technologies in the field of electromechanical and process control to bring the ideas and methods of industrial engineer training to the university classroom. Ms. Fan said, “Through cooperation with the University, we combine industrial engineer training and engineering practice with classroom theory teaching, so that students can better link their professional learning with their career development. China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) has a very long-term and in-depth plan for the training of outstanding engineering talents, and the two sides have reached a high degree of consensus on the training of engineering talents, which is also the premise of this laboratory cooperation.”
The “Laboratory Construction and Practical Ability Training” exchange meeting hosted by China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) at the same time invited experts from Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Technology, B&R, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and MapleSoft to share and have a warm exchange with teachers and students on site. The experts jointly discussed the problems in the integration of industry and education, the integration of competition and education, and the training of innovative talents.
ABB has always attached great importance to talent training. Its business departments have carried out a large number of scientific research cooperation projects with a number of domestic universities and research institutions in many fields, helping to cultivate and improve students’ professional skills by building joint laboratories, providing teacher training courses, jointly writing teaching materials, organizing student internships and training certifications, and providing scholarships and grants. And actively promote the long-term learning and sustainable development of talents.
ABB also cooperated with the Chinese Society of Automation to hold the ABB Cup Smart Technology Innovation Competition for 18 consecutive years, attracting more than 20,000 young students to participate; And through the “ABB – New Great Wall Poor College Students Program” a total of about 17 million yuan has been donated to help nearly 5,000 college students from 47 universities to complete their studies.
