As the “dual carbon” target time node continues to countdown, the process of carbon reduction in various fields continues to accelerate, and the development of digital technologies such as 5G, the Internet of Things, cloud computing, and AI has provided strong support for low-carbon transformation. At the Digital Innovation Industry Forum, Wei Kun, head of Digital Building Marketing Department of Schneider Electric’s Digital Energy Efficiency Business in China, was invited to attend the roundtable dialogue with the theme of “Innovation mission | Circular economy and ESG Enterprise Practice” to share topics on how to apply AI technology to empower buildings to reduce carbon. He stressed: “AI and digital technologies will play an increasingly critical role in enterprises’ journey towards low-carbon development. This year, Schneider Electric proposed the concept of “five-dimensional integration”, that is, through digitalization to achieve the integration of energy and automation, information transparency with customers, integration of the whole life cycle, decentralized management toward unified operation and sustainable integrated energy management, and promote the carbon reduction of the whole scene, the whole industry chain, and the whole life cycle of the enterprise. In the future, Schneider Electric will seize the new opportunities of the era of digital technological change, combine cutting-edge technologies with deep insights into the industry, and continue to make
efforts in key carbon emission industries such as buildings, and create innovative products based on customer needs to help more enterprises practice sustainable development.”
As a practitioner of digitalization and green low-carbon, Schneider Electric innovated the combination of AI technology and digital energy management system, and released the new digital product SpaceLogic AI BOX (Building Energy saving box) equipped with AI technology at the 2023 Shanghai International Carbon Neutral Expo, which innovated the introduction of AI capabilities into digital twin technology. For HVAC systems, which account for 45% of energy consumption in the building industry, four core functions such as digital twin, modeling verification, system optimization, and energy saving monitoring are used to optimize energy efficiency strategies, adding digital wings to building carbon emission management.
Digitalization takes a big step forward, lighthouse factory verifies energy efficiency
The supporting role of AI for carbon reduction not only stays in the interpretation of technological innovation, but also gets solid data support and significant optimization results in practical applications. In order to verify the actual energy saving effect of SpaceLogic AI BOX, Schneider Electric first applied the product in the Schneider Electric Wuxi factory. As a benchmark case in the building sector, the plant is one of Schneider Electric’s five “lighthouse factories” worldwide and one of the first successful cases to apply building energy saving boxes to actual production. With the blessing of AI technology, the HVAC system of the factory realizes the automatic perception of internal and external temperature and automatic instruction, which not only effectively reduces the dependence of the factory on operation and maintenance personnel, but also improves the overall energy saving effect of the building. Operating data show that under the application of SpaceLogic AI BOX (building energy saving box), the air conditioning system in April saved 22% of energy compared with the same period last year, and the overall proportion dropped to 36%, and the energy saving effect was significantly improved.
