Located in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, the hometown of overseas Chinese, ABB Xinhui Factory is one of ABB’s global low-voltage product manufacturing bases. Focusing on the production of smart circuit breakers for power distribution protection and control and the provision of advanced electrification technology solutions, the plant takes the development of innovative technologies as its core competence to help China transition to a more sustainable energy system.
ABB’s “Mission to Zero™” is an expansive project that aims to use ABB’s product technologies to implement new energy generation and storage, building automation in ABB’s own facilities and factories to drive production with clean energy. At the same time, these pioneering solutions will be replicated or extended to user sites with low-carbon transition needs, enabling zero-emission business operations. The project covers energy production, energy management and automation in industrial and commercial operations.
Jinrui Cao, General Manager of ABB Xinhui Low-Voltage Switch Co., LTD., said, “Under the ‘Mission to Zero™’ project, ABB Xinhui plant has integrated the concept of sustainability into every aspect of its daily operations. Our people are empowered to make changes and contribute their wisdom and strength to sustainable development. The ABB Power “¢energy management system gives us the tools to measure and improve energy efficiency. In addition, we have implemented a green energy procurement strategy and electrified our vehicles.”
The ABB Power ™ Energy Management system provides a dynamic digital platform for effective energy management in complex and dynamic business environments. The cloud digital platform, with data capture and analytics capabilities, enables ABB’s new plant to understand its energy consumption in real time, helping it save 932 MWH of energy and achieve a 16.5% improvement in energy efficiency compared to the 2019 base year.
In keeping with its commitment to a low-carbon society, ABB Xinhui Plant consumes 82% of its electricity from the local hydroelectric power plant and the remaining 18% from rooftop solar power. In addition, by switching to electric vehicles, ABB reduced direct greenhouse gas emissions (range 1) by 189 tons at the new plant. The plant’s seven electric buses provide green commuting services for 820 employees, while 51 forklifts for material transfer have been fully electrified.
ABB Xinhui Plant received “Zero Waste to landfill” Gold certification in 2022, according to UL standard UL 2799A, with a waste conversion rate of 97%.
