Advantech, a provider of embedded Internet of Things solutions, recently launched the AIMB-278 industrial motherboard. The AIMB-278 uses a 12/13th-generation Intel® Core™ processor that leverages DDR5 and PCIe x16 Gen 5 to deliver outstanding throughput. At the same time, it supports the expansion of the M.2 M key and M.2 E key, as well as rich I/O (6 x USB 3.2 Gen 2, independent 4 display, up to 4K support), enhancing the ability to transfer large amounts of data and image processing. In addition, it is the first in the AIMB Mini-ITX series to be designed with a 2.5GbE LAN port. The AIMB-278 supports Windows and Ubuntu and is ideal for applications such as medical imaging and overspeed test and measurement where high performance is required.
High computing power speeds analysis and improves data accuracy
Compared to the previous generation solution, the AIMB-278 achieves a 40% improvement in overall performance with the 16-core i9-12900E. With the hybrid architecture of 12th-generation Intel® Core™ processors, the hybrid architecture of performance core and Efficiency Core accelerates single-threaded execution and response for compute-intensive workloads, as well as multi-threaded capabilities to synchronize background tasks. AIMB-278 supports up to 64GB of DDR5 4800MHz, improving data rate and stability for applications requiring high-speed digital design, ensuring computational efficiency for medical imaging and test equipment. In addition, the AIMB-278 has a powerful steel PCIe x16 Gen 5 (32GT/s) expansion slot for
installing large-sized GPU cards – including the NVIDIA RTX series (for example, the RTX A5000 with 27.8TFLOPS), giving this product AI capabilities deep learning reasoning capabilities.
Rich I/O interface provides excellent transmission capability
The AIMB-278 utilizes 2.5GbE Ethernet for fast data transfer, ensuring stable, high-resolution real-time video streaming, while offering six USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports to improve data conversion efficiency at the edge at speeds of up to 10Gpbs. It supports NVMeSSD’s M.2 M-key, which increases data transfer volume by 25 times compared to SATA, improves read and write speeds, and extends service life. It also supports M.2 e-keys, enabling wireless operation even in unmanned or dust-free operating conditions. All in all, AIMB-278’s rich extension and I/O interfaces ensure excellent computing and processing performance.
Embedded software services for remote management
AIMB-278 supports the Ubuntu operating system for edge computing devices, and uses WISE-DeviceOn intelligent network software for device monitoring and predictive maintenance, ensuring 7x24h remote control, suitable for multi-machine automation control, and helping customers effectively reduce management costs. WISE-DeviceOn can be rebooted to resolve failures and errors in smart factory applications, helping users avoid system failures through real-time hardware, software, and peripherals monitoring, thereby increasing productivity and reducing time consumption. It can be seen that Advantech WISE-DeviceOn software can provide support for stable operation and convenient remote management of iot devices. Advantech’s Mini-ITX industrial motherboards are innovative and reliable, and include corresponding software value added services. Stable product quality and long-term technical support combined with an embedded level operating system provide customers with the ideal solution to help reduce time to market.
