Lenovo Group Wuhan Industrial Base was awarded the first zero-carbon factory certificate in the ICT industry, becoming the first and only zero-carbon factory in China’s ICT industry that has been evaluated by a third party. With the Wuhan industrial base as a zero-carbon upgrade pilot, the “Wuhan solution” explored by Lenovo Group may become a “zero-carbon model” for traditional factories in China’s manufacturing industry, which is of great significance for China’s manufacturing smoothly toward carbon neutrality.
Over the years, we have practiced the concept of green development
Lenovo Wuhan Industrial base obtains the first zero-carbon factory certificate
At the 2022 Carbon Peak Carbon Neutral Forum and the Green Manufacturing Sub-Forum of Shenzhen International Low-carbon City Forum, the first batch of zero-carbon factory evaluation certificates were issued. The evaluation certificate was evaluated and issued by the Certification Center of China Electronics Standardization Institute (Beijing Saxi Certification Co., LTD.) under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in accordance with the group standard of the “Zero-carbon Factory Evaluation General Code” issued at the end of September. The standard stipulates the basic principles, evaluation requirements, evaluation methods and evaluation procedures of zero-carbon plant evaluation, which is not only effectively connected with the national green plant evaluation standards, but also the relevant standards and norms of international carbon neutral evaluation.

Relevant leaders of China Institute of Electronic Technology Standardization and Shenzhen Bureau of Industry and Information Technology attended the forum and delivered speeches. In addition to Lenovo Group, BMW Brilliance, Haier, TCL Huaxing, AU Optronics and other companies have also made commitments to actively build zero-carbon factories in accordance with the zero-carbon factory standard.
Technical staff of Beijing Saxi Certification Co., LTD said that during the evaluation process, Lenovo Wuhan Industrial base performed well in the three dimensions of carbon management, carbon emission reduction and carbon offset, of which carbon emission reduction achieved full marks, and finally became the first carbon neutral participating factory. “Lenovo Group Wuhan industrial base zero-carbon factory upgrade road has a strong demonstration role, will provide a valuable reference for China’s traditional manufacturing factories zero-carbon transition.”
In the keynote speech, Liu Xinyi, senior manager of global manufacturing at Lenovo Group, said: “Lenovo Group is not only a traditional real economy and technology manufacturing enterprise, but also a company that provides’ new IT ’empowerment for the digital and intelligent transformation of the real economy. Lenovo Group has been continuously building a zero-carbon transformation model for Chinese enterprises from ‘dual-real integration, low-carbon development’ to ‘endogenous and external empowerment’, and will continue to use its accumulated experience, technology and management capabilities to empower more manufacturing industries and enterprises to move towards a ‘zero-carbon future’.”

Summary and output “Wuhan Plan”
Create a zero-carbon upgrade model for traditional factories in China
Lenovo Wuhan Industrial Base is the world’s largest intelligent mobile device manufacturing base of Lenovo Group, and also the first enterprise in Wuhan’s electronic information manufacturing field with an annual output value of more than 50 billion yuan, with a maximum daily production capacity of more than 140,000 units. While achieving rapid growth, the Wuhan Industrial Base has continued to promote the ecological design of products, the use of environmentally friendly materials, the optimization of manufacturing processes and the promotion of the use of renewable energy over the years, and the emission of water, noise and air pollutants has been reduced, and the emission indicators are better than the national standards.
Lenovo Group Wuhan industrial base
In terms of green energy use, Wuhan Industrial Base has increased lighting and LED lighting energy-saving transformation through architectural design, reduced energy demand, significantly increased the use of renewable energy, and completed the construction of distributed photovoltaic power stations in December 2019, reducing carbon emissions by about 1,104 tons per year. In terms of green process innovation, Wuhan Industrial base APSA nitrogen station was officially put into operation in August 2020, through the introduction of French Air Liquide group’s cryogenic nitrogen technology, compared with the traditional PSA gas production method, nitrogen extraction rate increased by 2.2 times, power consumption reduced by more than 50%, saving more than 10,000 degrees of power for the base every day.
In terms of digital transformation, Wuhan Industrial Base has made full use of industrial Internet, artificial intelligence, 5G and other “new IT” technologies to integrate manufacturing, and carried out a series of intelligent upgrading innovation projects, such as building a Device management platform, Device mate, to improve equipment utilization; Independently develop data center IDEAS to realize the interconnection of production and operation data; Introduce QMS2.0 system to improve the level of product production quality management; Independently develop intelligent planning APS system to achieve plant resource management, intelligent production scheduling, agile delivery, and improve operational efficiency.
In addition, Wuhan Industrial base has established the whole life cycle management of green products, continuously reduce the material consumption per unit product, choose environmentally friendly raw and auxiliary materials, adopt advanced and applicable production technology and energy-efficient equipment, and reduce resource consumption and environmental impact in the production process. The base has also actively introduced advanced environmental protection processes, equipment and technology, and has made efforts to improve environmental protection
