When the snow once again covered the mountains of Chongli, the city known to the world for hosting part of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, began to welcome a large number of ice and snow sports fans.

Many tourists come to Chongli, in addition to recalling the intense Olympic conditions and personally try on the track at the same time, but also hope to wash their hearts in the pure snow and ice world, wash away the fatigue of the whole year. Clothing, food, housing and transportation are the basic needs of people’s lives, and when they travel outside, the quality of accommodation affects the play experience. In the fast-paced daily life, people no longer meet the standard accommodation experience of traditional hotels, but gradually turn their attention to characteristic homestay-based products. On the one hand, the environment layout of the homestay is close to the local culture and customs, and has a higher sense of experience; On the other hand, living in a homestay makes people feel more at home, bringing a full sense of belonging to tourists who live in different places.

At the end of 2021, the “12 · Public Welfare Design Exhibition” was unveiled in Chongli, and 16 art Spaces created by 23 well-known domestic first-line designers and their teams with the purpose of “design for people’s livelihood” were officially unveiled in Cuiyunshan Aoxue Town. This project aims to combine the power of design with snow sports, natural scenery and other tourism resources to create a variety of unique accommodation experiences for tourists. As one of the participants, Mr. Ricky Wong, founder of RWD (Ricky Wong Designers), believes that “distant home” should also meet the real needs of life, even if it is a short residence during leisure vacation, it should be as comprehensive as home. In his work “Living in the West Mountain”, he first uses soft design to describe the prototype of the snow hut that makes people feel at ease, and then works with Schneider Electric to make the living closer to the warmth of home with the help of intelligent technology.

To create a pleasant aesthetic space in the snow scene

Designer Huang Zhida has more than 20 years of design experience. In his career, he often visits different countries and regions to observe and experience various lifestyles. He advocated that “design gives life infinite possibilities”, so in his design, you can see the place of the mind’s desire. The window contains the Xiling thousand autumn snow, the door mooring Dongwu Wanli ship. When the poet looked out of the window at the snow ridge of the West Mountain, the snow did not give people a cold feeling, but like a picture in the window frame. This is people’s imagination of living in the snow for thousands of years, the house gives people a warm and safe shelter, so that people can feel the vast world outside the window in the quiet room, Huang Zhida’s “West Ling House” is inspired by this.

To create an indoor atmosphere suitable for enjoying the snow outside the window, designer Huang Zhida mainly starts from three aspects: tone, material and lighting.

The tone is the tone of the overall atmosphere. Xiling House uses a large area of rice white as the background color, and some furniture and decoration use sand lime, pale ochre and dark green as the ornament. The saturation of the color of the whole house is low, so that the vision is fully relaxed, which leads to the relaxation of the mood.

The designer wanted to preserve the original style and interest of the house space, so he did not make too much modification to the original structure and texture of the interior. In his design, he used natural materials such as marble and raw wood floors to make the house exude a simple Zen and restore the Oriental aesthetics of the poem. And choose the layout material soft home products, to create a warm and comfortable living atmosphere. Cleverly, the designer uses metal and paint to bring a transparent modern sense, opening up the connection between artistic conception and reality.

Lighting is a magic stroke that affects the atmosphere of the space. Outside is the white snow, but inside is full of warm lights, it is very pleasant. The interior space of Xiling House is divided into living area, office area and leisure area according to the function standard, which not only meets the rest needs during the vacation, but also allows the residents to calmly cope with the occasional business needs of office. According to different functional zones, the living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and terrace are refined, which is a familiar space layout like home.

“I think the design philosophy of quality life is nature, comfort and intelligence.” While designing to maximize the enjoyment of nature, Huang Zhida also uses smart technology to enhance the comfort of life.
