ABB Electrical Innovation Week 2024 was held in Xiamen on January 9 with the theme of “Energy Future, Innovation-driven”, which aims to interpret the opportunities and challenges of the energy future, reveal the key to the energy revolution, and point out the development path of energy transformation. Through the opening forum, keynote speech, innovative product solution release and display, and industry forum, the event fully demonstrated ABB’s key role in energy transformation, focused on hot topics in green energy, green building, green industry, green data center and other industries, and built key scenarios in key industries with new power systems as the carrier. Opportunities and challenges for the energy future
In the opening forum held on January 9, more than 200 government leaders, opinion leaders, industry association experts, business representatives, partners and end users gathered to exchange and discuss the “opportunities and challenges of the energy future”.
Li Junfeng, founding director of the National Center for Strategic Research and International Cooperation on Climate Change, said: “The essence of energy transition is a process from resource dependence to technology dependence, and development and innovation can make China’s energy system and energy system truly change.” The construction of new energy systems is the key to transformation and a major investment opportunity. Shen Yuxiang, chairman of the Building Electrical Branch of the Architectural Society of China and chief engineer of Huajian Group, said: “In the new pattern of low-carbon development, building electrical design is facing many challenges, therefore, the design needs to fully consider the new requirements of building energy conservation and green building development, the use of clean energy technology, light storage direct soft technology, building load flexible regulation technology, etc., relying on smart building brain to overcome these challenges, and create a smart building with harmonious coexistence with the environment. To realize the interaction with the new power system, improve the absorption capacity of new energy, enhance the comfort and experience of living, and jointly meet the arrival of the era of carbon neutrality.”
Maesong, deputy director of the Power System Research Institute of China Electric Power Research Institute, believes that the construction of a new power system requires the participation of the entire industry and even the whole society, and as a hub power system, it needs to play the role of overall planning and optimization of configuration. As far as the user side is concerned, the user’s electricity consumption behavior and the demand-side management mode need to be adapted to change according to the scale of new energy access. When there is no network load interaction, the load side and the power generation side need to assume corresponding responsibilities and rights to ensure the safety and efficiency of the energy system.
Innovative technologies enable the energy revolution

This year, ABB will launch a series of celebrations for the “100th anniversary of the micro Circuit Breaker” to add momentum and vitality to continuous innovation. At the same time, the 1 million ring cabinet will also be offline in Beijing this year, becoming a model for the improvement of local large-scale intelligent manufacturing capacity to meet the needs of local and overseas customers for smarter and greener switchgear.
Today, the world’s first IEC 60947-2 compliant SACE Infinitus solid-state circuit breaker was officially released in China, enabling safe and energy-efficient DC power systems. Solid-state circuit breakers switch on and off power supply circuits through semiconductor power electronics. ABB solid-state circuit breakers detect and respond to short-circuit faults 100 times faster and have a service life 100 times longer than conventional circuit breakers. No energy is released during the breaking process, and the chance of dangerous arcing is reduced to almost zero, protecting the safety of personnel and equipment. This follows ABB’s revolutionary solid-state technology concept in 2019.
