M17 – Future standard size for miniaturized drives?
Currently, circular connectors of size M23 serve most of the connections of drivers and actuators in industrial applications. However, due to the improvement of drive efficiency and the development of digitalization, miniaturization and decentralization
trends, the number of compact drives is constantly on the rise. New, more cost-effective ideas also call for new, more compact interfaces. Size and performance data define the Harting M17 series as the new standard for drives up to 7.5kW and above. With rated voltages up to 630V and current-carrying capacities up to 26A at ambient temperatures of 40°C, the M17 series provides very high power density for compact and efficient drives.
In order to reduce the number of interfaces on the drive, the M17 connector for hybrid solutions (power + signal + data) is also being standardized according to IEC 61076-2-117 as part of the “Single Cable Automation” (OCA) program, which means that future solutions will be plug-in compatible between manufacturers based on their respective standards.
