Four plants were included in the “2023 Green Factory List” of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, bringing the number of Siemens’ national green factories to 11
Two factories were selected in the “2023 Green Supply Chain Management Enterprise List” of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology
Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) “2023 annual Green Manufacturing List” announced that four Siemens factories were successfully awarded the national green factory, and the number of Siemens national green factories increased to 11. The four new plants are Siemens Electric Drive Co., LTD., Siemens Manufacturing Engineering Center Co., LTD., Siemens Traffic Electrical Equipment (Shanghai) Co., LTD., and Siemens Signal Co., LTD. At the same time, Siemens Medium Voltage Switch Technology (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Siemens Switch Co., Ltd. were also included in the list of green supply chain management enterprises.
The national green factory represents that it has reached the leading level in land intensification, clean production, waste resource utilization, and low energy carbonization, and is the pioneer demonstration of green manufacturing enterprises. The four national green factories selected by Siemens have always been committed to implementing various energy-saving solutions such as upgrading the energy-saving lighting system of the workshop, constructing the power feedback system of the high-power inverter test platform, and recycling packaging materials. At the same time, these plants are also actively constructing LEED green building certification plants, using distributed rooftop PV, and applying green and low-carbon related advanced technologies and solutions, including Siemens’ own SiGREEN carbon footprint trusted actuarial and traceability solutions, and smart energy management platform. Finally, significant energy saving, efficiency, emission reduction and carbon reduction effects have been achieved in six dimensions of infrastructure, management system, energy resource input, products, environmental emissions and performance.
National green supply chain management demonstration enterprises need to establish resource-saving and environment-friendly oriented procurement, production, marketing, recycling and logistics systems, promote upstream and downstream enterprises to jointly improve resource utilization efficiency, improve environmental performance, and achieve the goal of efficient resource utilization, minimize environmental impact, and green enterprises on the chain. The inclusion of two Siemens plants in the Green Supply Chain Management List shows that factories have played a leading role in these dimensions. Siemens Medium Voltage Switching Technology (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. uses the “SCM STAR” digital platform to manage suppliers’ carbon emissions, and creates green products through core product life cycle assessment, environmental product declaration, greenhouse gas verification and other projects. At the same time, distributed rooftop photovoltaic and efficient gas recovery devices are used to improve the green properties of the factory, and play a leading role in the industrial chain. Help the whole industrial chain net zero emissions. Shanghai Siemens Switch Co., Ltd. carries out intelligent and comprehensive application of medium voltage switch product production and logistics, realizes the digital upgrade of the whole manufacturing process, continuously optimizes the energy use structure, increases the proportion of green energy, and promotes energy saving and carbon reduction through the digital sustainable procurement platform with upstream and downstream enterprises.
Siemens has previously announced that it will invest 650 million euros to decarbonize its own operations by 2030, and has committed to achieving carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030. Siemens’ Sustainability Report for Fiscal Year 2023, released recently, shows that since fiscal year 2019, Siemens has reduced the CO2 emissions generated from its operations by 50%. More than 90% of Siemens’ businesses have a positive impact on customer sustainability: Siemens products and solutions sold during the 2023 fiscal year helped customers avoid Emissions of approximately 190 million tons of CO2, an increase of approximately 24% over the previous fiscal year and equivalent to 16 times the CO2 emissions generated by Siemens from its own operations and supply chain. In addition, in September 2021, Siemens officially launched the “Zero Carbon Pioneer Program” in China, committed to promoting carbon reduction in its own operations, supply chain management and customer empowerment, and has achieved remarkable results.
