IS420YDIAS1B IC Insights recently updated its latest Maclean Report. The report points out that the global MCU market sales will increase by 10% in 2022, and the market size is expected to reach $21.5 billion, another record high. Among them, automotive MCUS will grow faster than most other end markets this year. According to the report, automotive MCU sales are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.7%, while general purpose MCU revenue is expected to grow by 7.3%. The smart card market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 1.4% through 2026.
For two decades, the MCU market has faced a dramatic IS420YDIAS1B decline in average selling prices. But over the past five years, the rate of decline in average MCU selling prices has slowed. In 2021, the MCU average selling price (ASP) rebounded strongly, rising 10% to $0.64, which was the average price before the COVID-19 outbreak in 2019. According to IC Insights’ current forecast, the average selling price of MCUS will continue to rise over the 2021-2026 period, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.5%.
In terms of shipments, MCU unit shipments will see limited growth of 12% in 2021 due to production and supply chain bottlenecks. MCUS delivered 30.9 billion units.
IS420YDIAS1B IC Insights forecasts that total MCU shipments will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3.0% between 2021 and 2026, with total MCU shipments expected to reach 35.8 billion units by 2026. From 2021-2026, total MCU sales are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.7% and reach $27.2 billion in the last year of the forecast. Sales of 32-bit MCUS are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 9.4% over the next five years, reaching $20 billion by 2026. Meanwhile, sales of 4/8-bit MCUS are not expected to grow over the next five years, remaining stuck at about $2.4 billion in 2026. 16-bit MCUS revenue is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 1.6% between 2021 and 2026, reaching $4.7 billion in 2026.
In the future, the three major areas of automotive, industrial control, and IOT are expected to continue to promote the rapid growth of the MCU market size. Chi Xiannian, senior consultant of CCID Consulting Integrated Circuit Center, told China Electronics News that under IS420YDIAS1B the trend of automobile intelligence, automation and electrization, automotive electronic architecture reconstruction, the required number and unit price of MCUS will increase, and the demand for MCU will also change. Industrial-grade MCUS continue to put forward new requirements for wireless connectivity, environmental awareness, precise control, power management, human-computer interaction and other functions. At the same time, the Internet of Things (IOT) has enabled more products to achieve networked control, bringing incremental MCU demand.
