ABB provided 23 high-efficiency inverters for the new waste incineration power generation project in Vein Technology Industrial Park in Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu Province. After the project is put into operation, it is expected to save more than 120,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 300,000 tons per year.
The power plant can generate up to 370 million KWH per year, and most of the equipment in the plant is driven by motors, including: boiler induced draft fans, blowers, and circulating pumps. When these motors are equipped with frequency converters, the energy efficiency is greatly improved. Since the project is a waste incineration power plant, this also significantly reduces the CO2 emissions of the power plant.
The power plant uses 10 ACS580MV medium-voltage inverters and 1756-L71S 13 ACS580 low-voltage inverters to regulate the motor speed throughout the plant, reducing energy consumption by about 30%. Beijing Beikong Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. hopes to save energy and reduce carbon emissions through the use of frequency converters, improve the stability of power generation equipment, take into account the safe operation of units, and reduce downtime.
The project will be fully completed and put into operation before the end of November 2022, and the domestic waste treatment capacity of Zhangjiagang City is expected to increase from the original 900 tons/day to 2250 tons/day. Incineration of waste for electricity can reduce CO2 emissions by 40% compared to landfills. The project is a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) project and is divided into two phases, with the first phase of the license period from 2008 to 2038 and the second phase from 2014 to 2044.
