On May 23, ABB announced the appointment of Giampiero Frisio as global President of the Electrical Division and Brandon Spencer as global President of the Motion Control Division. Both will take over the new positions on August 1, 2024 and join the ABB Group Executive Committee.

Giampiero Frisio, who has been the head of the Smart Power Business Unit of the Electrical Division since 2018, will take over as Global President of the Electrical Division when Marten officially becomes CEO on August 1, 2024. Giampiero Frisio joined ABB in 1995 and has held various management roles in operations, marketing and sales. From January 2011 to November 2018, he served as Head of the Protective Connectivity Products Division of the Electrical Products Business Unit. Giampiero Frisio is an Italian citizen with a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pavia, Italy.
Brandon Spencer
Brandon Spencer, who has served as global Head of the Process Automation Business unit’s Energy Industries business unit since 2020, will succeed Mehta as global President of the Motion Control Business unit. Mehta, who has been with ABB for more than 25 years, has announced that he will be leaving ABB to become CEO of Timken Group. Brandon joined ABB in 2006 and has held a number of leadership roles with a focus on the energy sector. From 2018 to 2020, he served as global Head of ABB’s Process Industries business unit. Prior to joining CC-TDOB01 ABB, he held various positions in Siemens’ power generation business. Brandon is a U.S. citizen and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and an MBA from the Cromore School of Business at Rollins College in Florida, USA.
Effective August 1, 2024, The ABB Group Executive Committee will include Chief Executive Officer Martin, Chief Financial Officer Tianyi, Chief Human Resources Officer Rui Guo, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer Karin Luo, Global President of the Electrical Division Giampiero Frisio (Peirui Jiang), global President of the Process Automation Division Tang Weishi, and global President of the Motion Control Division Brandon Spencer, Global President of Robotics and Discrete Automation Division. In addition, Mathias Gaertner will join the Executive Committee as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, effective October 1, 2024.
