Introduction: In the rapidly evolving human machine interface (HMI) application market environment, with the continuous technological innovation and cost control requirements, the need for device size and customization is increasing. Especially in the medical, industrial automation and other fields, customers’ pursuit of miniaturized, high-performance and highly customized solutions has never stopped.
With the increasing popularity of Arm platform solutions, more and more customers looking for efficient and flexible solutions tend to choose Arm core boards to meet the needs of HMI embedded in various application scenarios. Under such a market trend, the miniaturized Arm core board has become an urgent product for HMI customers.
1. Specific customer needs
VPM810 A customer needs to develop an HMI device with dual display capabilities. One LVDS is used as the main display interface of the HMI, and the other HDMI is used to expand the screen display. In addition, the device also needs to support two RS485 and CAN communications to connect to the field of the lower computer equipment. At the same time, customers also want the device to be able to connect to the server over wired and wireless networks.
Because the customer required the overall thickness of the HMI device to be controlled within 2cm, a smaller master size was required. And considering the cost, the customer does not use ODM, only accept the core board or single board solution. This presents a challenge to the selection of equipment master.
2. Advantech Program
To meet the challenging needs, Advantech provides the OSM size-L core board ROM-2820 solution based on the i.MX93. The core board is equipped with two high-performance A55 cores to support customers’ complex software applications. In terms of hardware resources, the core board is designed with 4 UART interfaces, so that customers can flexibly expand multiple serial port resources such as RS485 and RS232; At the same time, the CAN resources of i.MX93 platform can also meet the requirements of customers for industrial communication.
VPM810 In terms of network connection, the i.MX93 core board not only provides the possibility of RJ45 Ethernet connection, but also supports WiFi or 4G solution connection, ensuring that the device can be seamlessly connected to the customer’s server side. The most critical is that the size of the ROM-2820 core board is only 45*45mm, the thickness is 1mm, the OSM standard specification, the LGA package, compared with the core board of the connector solution, ROM-2820 through SMT welding on the bottom plate, compared with the core board + bottom plate solution connected with the traditional connector, OSM solution (core plate + base plate) dimension thickness is thinner.
