Are they electric?
IS220PSVOH1B Pal-V eventually intends to electrify the entire system, but the battery is too heavy. The car weighs 660 kilograms, and every additional kilogram reduces its range by about 7 kilometers. After the battery is installed, the range will be reduced from 500 km to about 100 km. So while Pal-V is working on synthetic fuels, i.e. carbon-neutral or e-fuels, as a first step towards decarbonising the aviation industry, creating a flying car with an acceptable range is not yet feasible. “Our goal is not just to sell products in the market, we want to decarbonize the industry,” Wolters said. Compared to the huge volume required for different applications, we can achieve this with these small vehicles.” The company expects that by 2028-2030, vehicles will be retrofitted, including converted into larger vehicles.
What are the obstacles?
As with everything in aviation, everything takes time. It takes at least 10-12 years to develop an aircraft from scratch and get certified. Whether you’re Pal-V, Boeing or Airbus, there’s a lot of paperwork to do to make sure the vehicle can fly safely. Design is part of it, but getting certified is undoubtedly the biggest hurdle that has to be overcome. Pal-V spends about 60% of its investment on certification. In response to the company’s rapid growth and new demands for strict data compliance, they needed a product lifecycle management software as a foundation for business development. They chose to host PTC’s Windchill PLM solution in the cloud.
IS220PSVOH1B What is Cloud Windchill?
It is a comprehensive PLM solution for data management and traceability, providing an authoritative authentic source for all kinds of data, whether it is product data or process data. Its open architecture makes it easy to integrate with other enterprise systems because we know that product development is a team sport that requires connecting a large number of other systems. This is the basis of the product-driven digital mainline. As a result, this cloud-managed service we offer makes PLM solutions easier to configure and scale, and very importantly, secure. It really helps facilitate collaboration and flexibility both within and across businesses, including how to work in remote environments.
