I. Project background

As the country promotes the strategy of information technology autonomy, control and localization in all walks of life, the field of ship informatization, as an important part of Marine development, has also responded positively. When designing shipboard information system, a domestic shipbuilding enterprise needs to adopt domestic hardware and software solutions in response to the end customer’s demand for localization. In addition, the overall hardware equipment needs to have the ability to resist the impact of the Marine environment to meet the needs of the information system to obtain navigation parameters and data stably and reliably. After several rounds of communication, the company finally adopted Advantech’s RK3399 platform Arm single-board computer RSB-4710 and customized adapted Kirin system to build the onboard information system.

Key customer needs include:

1. IS200DTAOH1ABA The shipboard information system shall meet the national requirements for information security and realize the localization of key materials and software.

2. The system can obtain navigation parameters and ship data stably and reliably to ensure the safe operation of the ship.

3. The system needs to be able to withstand the long-term impact of the Marine environment, including high humidity and long-term operation in the salt spray environment.

4. The system should have good scalability and compatibility to upgrade and expand functions in the future.

Ii. Advantech Program

In response to customer needs, Advantech provides customers with one-stop services from hardware selection, software development to system integration. At the beginning of the project, the two sides clarified the requirements through communication and selected RSB-4710 as the core hardware platform of the shipboard information system. On the basis of this hardware, Advantech customized the Galaxy Kirin system as a software platform for customers, and carried out the development and optimization of software functions. With the assistance of Advantech, the customer successfully completed the development based on the Advantech RSB-4710 and the Kirin system, and completed the integration into the shipboard information system, passing a comprehensive system test.

• High-performance processor: The RSB-4710 is based on the domestic chip Rui Chip RK3399 platform, equipped with high-performance ARM dual Cortex-A72 and quad Cortex-A53 processors, the main frequency of up to 1.8GHz, providing powerful computing power for the shipboard information system.
• Rich interface resources: RSB-4710 is a 3.5-inch motherboard, which provides rich resources including dual HDMI/LVDS/eDP rich display interface, as well as dual GbE interface, 6 serial ports, 6 USB interface and 5 GPIO interface rich I/O interface, to meet the needs of shipboard information system for data interaction and display.
• Industrial design: The RSB-4710 is designed and verified for industrial reliability and supports wide temperature operation to ensure stable operation in the ship’s complex environment.
• IS200DTAOH1ABA Three anti-paint coating: Advantech can provide customers with three anti-paint coating services to support customers’ products in complex environments can run stably for a long time.

2. Galaxy Kirin embedded operating system
• Endogenous security: The Galaxy Kirin embedded operating system inherits the security features of the Galaxy Kirin universal operating system, and constructs an endogenous intrinsic security system of integrated kernel and application based on autonomous hardware and software and cryptography technology to ensure the information security of the shipboard information system.
• Compatibility: Galaxy Kirin embedded Kirin system has good compatibility, can be compatible with a variety of mainstream software and hardware devices. In order to meet the use scenario of multiple peripherals of industrial computer in industrial field, Galaxy Kirin embedded operating system currently supports various types of industrial buses including serial port, Ethernet, PCI, etc.
• Custom development: Advantech customized the Galaxy Kirin system for customers, and developed and optimized the software functions according to customer requirements to ensure that the system can meet the specific requirements of the shipboard information system.

Iv. Project results and feedback

1. The ship-borne information system realizes the localization of key technologies and products, which meets the national requirements for information security and localization.

2. The system can obtain navigation parameters and ship data stably and reliably, providing a strong guarantee for the safe operation of the ship.

3. The system has good scalability and compatibility, which is convenient for future function upgrading and expansion.

The customer was very satisfied with the onboard information system solution provided by Advantech, which not only met their needs, but also provided good technical support and service. The customer said that it will continue to cooperate with Advantech to jointly promote the localization process in the field of Marine information.
