On July 3, 2024, the 2024 “Global Energy Prize” was announced, and Academician Zhu Ziqiang, founder of Midea Industrial Technology Shanghai Research and Development Center, leading research expert of Midea Central Research Institute, and director of Welling Motor Shanghai Research and Development Center, won the international energy field award.

The Global Energy Award is a prestigious international technology award in the field of energy, established by the Global Energy Association (The Global Energy Association) in 2002, awarded once a year, is to reward outstanding achievements in scientific and technological research and development in the field of energy. It aims to recognize scientists who have made extraordinary scientific achievements in solving the global problems, models and prospects of the development of the world’s energy industry, so as to promote the promotion of new technologies in the field of energy and discover efficient new energy sources, and ensure their safety and environmental protection, in order to promote the sustainable development of human civilization.
Starting in 2019, the prize awards one scholar in each of three categories: “traditional energy,” “unconventional energy,” and “new ways of using energy.” Academician Zhu Ziqiang won the “Conventional Energy” award of the 2024 Global Energy Award.
6189-RDT10C Prof. Zhuziqiang has achieved remarkable achievements in the design, modeling, control and application of permanent magnet AC motors and their drives, and has also won many honors and titles, including Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the IEEE Society, Fellow of the IET Society, leader of the Motor and Drive Research Institute of the University of Sheffield, and top Professor of the University of Sheffield.
In 2010, Academician Zhu Ziqiang joined Midea Group and created three technological innovation platforms, leading the research and development of products including core components of home appliances, industrial automation, and core components of new energy vehicles, and laying out more than 600 patents for Midea Group. Including BLDC motors for drum washing machines that break foreign monopolies, and BLDC high-speed motors for vacuum cleaners that lead the industry in performance.
