•ABB is the first plant in China to achieve UL 2799 zero waste to landfill
• Achieve 100% conversion of all waste generated during the plant’s own operations to achieve sustainable development
PPC905AE101-3BHE014070R0101 Recently, Beijing ABB Low Voltage Electric Co., Ltd. passed the UL2799 zero landfill waste certification, and obtained the highest level of “platinum” certificate, which is the first ABB in China to win the UL2799 zero landfill waste of the highest level of the factory, but also ABB in China obtained the fourth UL2799 certificate. Previously, Xiamen ABB Low Voltage Electrical Equipment Co., LTD., ABB Xinhui Low Voltage Switch Co., LTD., Xiamen ABB Switch Co., LTD., based on UL 2799 standard have obtained “zero waste landfill” gold certification.
With the further development of modern industry, the amount of waste generated is increasing day by day, leading to the destruction of the environment and ecology. How to dispose of waste in a safe and environmentally friendly way is of Paramount importance to the manufacturing sector. The UL 2799 Zero Waste to Landfill Environmental Claim Verification Procedure (ECVP) is the first standard to provide a complete waste conversion scheme and calculation method. At the same time, it is also one of the most stringent standards at present. It requires enterprises to convert at least 90% of their Waste through non-waste power generation [1], that is, only when the conversion rate is greater than 90% can they qualify for the Zero Waste to Landfill certification (the conversion rate is 90-94% for silver certification; Conversion rate 95-99% for gold certification; Conversion rate is 100% platinum grade). Platinum certification means that no waste can be sent to landfill during the production process.
Adhering to the concept of sustainable development, Beijing ABB Low Voltage Electric Co., Ltd. launched the “Zero waste landfill” certification project in February this year, to conduct in-depth analysis of the production and processing, use and waste disposal of raw materials, and reduce, reuse and recycle waste in all aspects of operation. Promote chemical reduction projects, reduce hazardous waste generation, change the way kitchen waste is treated, reduce waste incineration rate, recycle plastic packaging boxes, and reduce the use of packaging materials in logistics links. In addition, all waste disposal suppliers are trained to improve the efficient conversion of waste disposal stage, implement sustainable development, and achieve 100% conversion of all waste generated in the plant’s own operation process.

Zou Enchang, vice president of ABB Electric China and head of Smart Buildings Asia Pacific, said, “ABB is committed to empowering a low-carbon society and promoting the symbiotic development of enterprises and the environment through innovative technology products and solutions. This Zero Waste Platinum certification fully demonstrates our exploration and efforts in the field of zero waste to landfill, but also demonstrates our strong commitment to promote sustainable development. ABB will continue to promote green development, actively implement the system standards of green manufacturing in the production and operation process, establish a green supply chain, and actively move towards a net zero future.”
