Bently Nevada’s 3701/55 ADAPT ESD (Emergency Shutdown Device) is a safety PLC that integrates a graphical logic programming interface and all-in-one overspeed detection. Designed for emergency shutdowns, it is suitable for steam, gas and hydraulic turbines, expanders and other process equipment. The 3701/55 ADAPT ESD is known for its compact, self-contained, triple-redundant safe shutdown unit designed to meet a wide range of user scenarios and applications, designed with a focus on reliability and availability, coupled with extensive self-diagnostic capabilities and industry standards.
The 3701/55 ADAPT ESD system provides triple module redundancy (TMR) by processing inputs through three CPU modules, each of which handles two unique speed input channels for a total of six speed channels in the system. In addition, the processing module monitors 32 discrete (DI) and process variable (PV) signal inputs. Twelve of these channels can be configured as discrete inputs or 4-20 mA analog inputs, and the remaining channels are used only for discrete input signals.
The mechanical shutdown function of the system is driven by TMR relay output modules, each containing five relays, which are highly configurable to suit a variety of applications and needs. The Bently Nevada Monitor Configuration software provides a graphical interface to configure relay logic, and the state of each relay is determined by the system input, the configured system logic, and the control state of the relay.
3701/55 ADAPT ESD complies with most applicable technical regulations and standards for compliance, including North American General Safety, CSA Certification, CE marking, Low Voltage and electromagnetic Compatibility, Functional Safety Certification (SIL), CE marking, Machinery Directive, North American, CSA certified Hazardous Area Certification, As well as European ATEX and IECEx hazardous area certification pending.
In addition, the Bently Nevada Monitor Configuration software runs on most Windows desktop or laptop systems, is fully tested for Microsoft Windows 7, and is proven in 32-bit or 64-bit environments. The software requires an Ethernet port with TCP/IP protocol support to communicate with the 3701/55 ADAPT ESD. The dual ports on each CPU module should be configured as different subnets to successfully implement redundant data paths.
For a physical installation of a 3701/55 ADAPT ESD, its terminal baseplate needs to be mounted vertically, and the power port should be drawn horizontally to ensure proper heat dissipation. The required cabinet depth is at least nine inches (9 inches).
It is worth noting that the 3701/55 ADAPT ESD system has received many certifications, including CSA, CE, SIL, etc., demonstrating its high standards in terms of safety and reliability. These certifications ensure the equipment’s compliance in various industrial applications and enhance user confidence in the product.
In terms of product accessories, the 3701/55 ADAPT ESD system includes a variety of components, Such as ADAPT ESD terminal backboard assembly (289701-01), ADAPT ESD CPU module (323174-01), ADAPT ESD 4-channel relay output module (323073-01 and 323073-02), The latter is a gold plated relay version), spare ADAPT ESD terminal block (289036-01), and ADAPT ESD weather shield (324343). A configuration software DVD (103M1345-01) is also available.
Bently Nevada’s 3701/55 ADAPT ESD system is an advanced emergency shutdown solution designed for monitoring and protecting critical rotating equipment, and its high degree of flexibility and powerful features make it an essential tool in industrial applications.
