The ICS T8310 is a Trusted TMR (Triple Module Redundancy) expansion processor module manufactured by Rockwell Automation to improve the reliability and fault tolerance of industrial control systems. The module is installed in the processor slot of the Trusted Expander Chassis and acts as the slave interface between the Expander Bus and Expander Chassis Backplane. It supports the implementation of multiple chassis systems using unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable connections while maintaining the fault tolerance of the high-bandwidth Inter-Module Bus (IMB).
The T8310 module has the following features:
Triple module redundancy (TMR) for 3-2-0 fault-tolerant operation.
The hardware implements a fault-tolerant (HIFT) architecture.
Dedicated hardware and software testing mechanisms provide fast fault identification and response.
Automatic fault handling to avoid false positives.
Supports hot swap replacement.
Indicators on the front panel show the health status and status of a module.
The hardware of the T8310 module consists of three processor fault isolation areas (FCRS), each containing a Motorola Power PC series processor and its associated memory, as well as a system for storing and executing applications. These processors execute programs independently, but lock step synchronously with the other two processors, with additional mechanisms allowing the failing processor to re-synchronize with the other two if one of them goes off course.
In terms of installation and maintenance, the T8310 module contains electrostatic sensitive components. Therefore, precautions against electrostatic discharge must be taken during handling. During installation, it should be ensured that the exposed connector pins are not touched, and under no circumstances should the module housing be removed.
The T8310 module is suitable for a variety of industrial applications, especially where high reliability and safety are required, such as in the chemical, oil, gas and power industries. Its design and functionality make it ideal for critical applications in these industries, helping to improve production efficiency and safety while reducing operating costs.
In addition, the T8310 module has automatic line monitoring to detect open and short circuit faults in the field line, and provides on-board Sequence of Events (SOE) reporting with a 1-millisecond resolution to trigger SOE entries when the output status changes. The module also features a 2500V pulse resistant photoelectric/isolation barrier, as well as automatic overcurrent protection per channel without the need for external fuses.
