Schneider Electric recently introduced a new industrial automation product, the FBM218 HART communication redundant Output interface module. The module is designed for Foxboro I/A Series Distributed control Systems (DCS) and provides eight channels of redundant output, each capable of delivering analog signals from 4 to 20 mA or superimposed digital HART signals.
With its high reliability and powerful functions, the FBM218 module is suitable for industrial automation control systems such as chemical, pharmaceutical, oil and gas. The modules are designed to be compact and robust for use in harsh industrial environments. It has eight isolated output channels, each capable of providing a superposition of a standard 4 to 20 mA analog output signal or a digital HART FSK signal.
The module’s redundant design ensures that continuous control and communication can be maintained even in the event of a module or communication link failure, which is critical for critical applications that do not allow process downtime. The FBM218 also features advanced diagnostics that provide comprehensive diagnostic information to help quickly detect and isolate faults.
The main features of the FBM218 module include:
Eight channels isolate output channels, supporting standard 4 to 20 mA devices and HART devices.
Module pairs provide FBM level redundancy.
Dedicated FSK modem for each output channel for two-way digital communication with HART field equipment.
Supports HART generic commands to interface with Foxboro DCS.
Electrical isolation between all output channels, from ground, and from module logic.
Compact and rugged design for G3 (harsh) environments.
In addition, the FBM218 module supports HART communication commands for device configuration and diagnostics, helping to improve the accuracy and reliability of process control. The module has an output resolution of 0.01%, an output accuracy of ±0.15%, a data rate of up to 2 messages per second, and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C.
The introduction of the FBM218 module further enriches Schneider Electric’s product line in the field of industrial automation, providing the industry with more powerful and flexible communication solutions.
