The Allen-Bradley 1756-L73 is a ControlLogix processor module that is part of the Logix 5570 product category. This is a Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) that is compatible for use in controlling large applications in the factory or process automation applications. It supports simplex configuration and high-availability (redundant) controller configuration for increased system availability.

The 1756-L73 is capable of interfacing 128,000 input and output signals as well as 4000 analog Input and output signals. It can be implement local I/O configuration where I/O modules are installed within the same chassis where the controller is installed or distributed I/O topology where expansion I/Os are installed remote from the processor and provides I/O through the extended communication bus. This controller supports Ethernet I/P, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Synchlink, as well legacy communication protocols such as Data Highway Plus (DH+), Remote I/O (RIO) and 3rd party protocols. It may also be configured to communicate with gateways and protocol converters. Similarly, this controller is compatible with any Allen-Bradley encompass partner ControlLogix modules.

This controller also comes with integrated motion as it supports SERCOS interface, analog motion sensors and motion control over Ethernet I/P. When programming this controller, applicable programming languages include relay ladder, structured text, function block diagram, and sequential function chart.

This controller is capable of handling 32 controller tasks, with 100 programs per task while event tasks accept all event triggers. This controller comes with 8MB user memory and I/O memory of 0.98 MB. It is also equipped with energy storage technology, eliminating use of battery for retaining contents of the volatile memory.

The 1756-L73 can use up to 8 MB of user memory with 0.98 MB of Input/Output memory. In addition, it has 128,000 total and digital I/O and 4000 analog I/O at most. The required current draw at 1.2V DC is 5 mA and 800 mA current draw is required at 5.1V DC. The 1756-L73 has 2.5 W power dissipation and 8.5 BTU/hour thermal dissipation. The isolation voltage is continuous at 30 V with basic insulation, tested at 500V AC for 60 seconds. Using a USB 2.0, it can reach up to 12 Mbps at its full speed. Approximately, it only weighs 0.25 kg with a 1-slot width and an open-style enclosure.
