VMIC’s VMIVME-7740 is a complete Pentium III processor-based computer with the added benefit of
Single European card architecture and full compatibility with VMEbus Specification Revision C.1. The
VMIVME-7740, with its advanced VMEbus interface as well as dual-port to VMEbus RAM, is ideal for
multi-processor applications. The single CPU board acts as a standard PC/AT, performs a PC/AT type boot
self-test, and then starts MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows NT, or other system PC-compatible operating systems. The
standard PC features of the VMIVME-7740 are discussed in Chapter 3 of this manual.
The VMIVME-7740 is also available as a VMEbus controller and interacts with other controllers VMEbus modules via
onboard PCI-to-VMEbus bridge and Endian conversion hardware.
The VMIVME-7740 can be accessed as a VMEbus standby board. VMEbus functionality can be implemented by
programming the VMIVME-7740 PCI-to-VMEbus bridge defined in this volume and/or dedicated to the optional PCI-to-VMEbus
interface board, The name is VMIVME-7740 Tundra UniverseII™VMEbus Interface Product Manual
(document number 500-007740-001). In this manual, all references to Universe II refer to Universe IIB. VMIVME-7740
programmers can quickly and easily control all VMEbus functions by linking to the VMEbus Interrupt and Control function
library. The library is available for Windows NT users in conjunction with VMIC’s VMISFT-9420 IOWorks Access software.
The VMIVME-7740 also offers features beyond typical PC/ AT-compatible SBC including a universal timer, a programmable
watchdog timer, a bootable flash memory system, and a non-volatile SRAM. These features make the unit ideal for
embedded applications. These non-standard PC/AT features are discussed in Chapter 4 of this manual.
