Outstanding features of this PSA include its ability to connect an external power source to the IC697 rack and to easily connect to a power source. It also plugs into a convenient power slot in the rack. As mentioned earlier, this PSA is a single slot module that can be inserted into the leftmost slot of the IC697 rack. The IC697PWR720 must be connected to an external power supply using a cable. The external power supply can be the IC697 power module or other external power supplies.

The +5, +12, and -12 VDC outputs are generated from an external power supply and connected to the rack backplane via the PSA module. This also applies to 5V remote sensing. The maximum current that can be supplied to the backplane via PSA is as follows: +5 volts output is 18 amps, +12 volts output is 2 amps, and -12 volts output is 1 amp.

PSA monitors +5 volt outgoing and compatible input power normal signals (TTL) from external power sources. TTL Indicates the holdtime during which the input voltage of the external power supply is sufficient to maintain an orderly system shutdown. PSA has also developed two backplane signals, ACFAIL* and SYSRESET*, for power-on and power-off sequences. In addition to TTL, the external power supply must also provide sufficient hold time (at least 5.05 milliseconds, according to ANSI/IEEE STD1014-1987) to guarantee an orderly shutdown of the system in the event of a power outage
